Novoflex CASTEL-M Focusing Rack with Focus Wheel

The Novoflex CASTEL-M Focusing Rack with Focus Wheel is an innovative solution for focus stacking at magnifications between 1:1 (lifesize) and 5:1. At the heart of the rack is a spindle which moves the camera platform forward with extreme accuracy for each image, and which also includes pre-set indexing ranges for magnification factors of 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 and 5:1, movement being controlled by the large wheel at the end of the rack.

Free control of the rack is also possible, by referencing the laser engraved scaling on the edge of the rack.

Like all other CASTEL racks, the CASTEL-M is fully integrated into the Novoflex Q= system of Arca-compatible accessories.

Features:

• Overcoming the greatly reduced depth of field available when working at magnifications of 1:1 and greater requires the use of focus stacking software. However, to create the best possible composite photo, precise overlapping of the individual images is of paramount importance.
• The CASTEL-M is accurate to 0.01mm, and provides pre-set indexing steps for magnification factors of 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 and 5:1. Simply select the ratio using the lever on the focus wheel cylinder, set the start point (the drive can be disengaged to do this), and then rotate the wheel by click stops until the end of the sequence. Calculation of the increments is done automatically.
• The click stops have been calculated in such a way as to avoid the negative effects of lens diffraction, and are calibrated for full-frame (35mm) sensor cameras with attached lenses at an aperture of f4. Cameras with APS-C sensors can be used reliably up to 4:1, and Four Thirds to 3:1.
• Complete free control of movement is also possible without engaging the click stops. Each rotation of the focus wheel moves the camera block 0.8mm.
• For use in product photography, the CASTEL-M can be fitted with the CASTBAL-PRO bellows attachment. In this configuration, the stacking steps are performed by moving the rear bellows standard, which means that the position of the lens does not change in relation to the subject. Compared to the classic Schleimpflug method, this creates front to back sharpness across the entire image field, rather than only in a single plane.
• The CASTEL-M is an ideal companion to a wide range of specialist lenses, such as the Canon MP-E 65mm/f2.8 1-5x Macro and the Laowa 25mm/f2.8 2.5-5x Ultra Macro.
• The quick release unit (n.b. plate not supplied) can be re-oriented 90°. Built-in spirit level.
