Pre-Owned Walker Titan XL 4×5″ in excellent condition. This camera has been left with us to sell on behalf of a long-standing and trusted client.

Uniquely inventive and uniquely rare, the Walker Titan XL is the brainchild of Mike Walker, a British camera designer who has created a series of large format field cameras of singular purpose and invention.

Traditionally, large format field cameras have either been made of wood or of metal. Both materials have consequences. Wood is light and easily worked. It makes for an easily transportable camera. Manufacturers would use hardwoods for the greatest durability and also for their aesthetic beauty. However wood also suffers from damp, cold and heat and the material can warp and split, causing frames to be misaligned.

Metals camera had none of these problem, but the penalty was the weight. Metal field cameras may offer the feeling of solidity and strength but they are heavy and at times awkward to carry and use.

Mike Walker challenged these concepts and created a large format camera using ABS, (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), a thermoplastic polymer. When introduced the Walker Titan SF was the world’s first large format camera made using injection moulded plastic. The camera was light but incredibly strong and as importantly, rigid. All the fittings are precision cut from stainless steel.

The SF was a revelation with enthusiastic reviews from users. The Walker Titan XL continues that line with a camera that is modded for wide angle use. Specifically addressing the problems of parallelism when used with extreme wide angle lenses. The camera has a fixed back with no movements, the front standard has rise and fall as well as axis tilt. The movements are sufficient for the lenses that can be accommodated. Lenses from 47mm to 180mm when mounted on flat panel. Or a 35mm on a sunken panel.

Both 4×5″ Film Holders and roll film holders can be used.

The camera is in excellent condition with negligible signs of use. All the functions work as they should with precision and tactility.
