The North York Moors Photography Experience with Joe Cornish

10th – 12th November 2023

Join Teamwork Digital and Phase One this November for a weekend of landscape photography with Joe Cornish. Following the success of our Northumberland Coast Photography Experience with Joe in 2022, we are very excited to be getting together for another weekend this November.

We have selected this time and location to seek the optimum Autumn colour. This area in particular, within the sanctuary valleys of the North York Moors, is somewhere that Joe knows intimately.

Our base for the workshop is the Victoria Hotel in Robin Hoods Bay. An independent establishment of charm and character, the Victoria sits on the most spectacular perch of the landscape, with magnificent views over the bay to the headland of Ravenscar a couple of miles to the south. Robin Hoods Bay village (or Bay Town as it is known) is wonderfully picturesque, and its colourful historical reputation has made it a magnet for artists and tourists alike. It is rivalled for pictorial potential by Staithes, another fishing village half an hour’s drive to the north.

Between these two villages lies Whitby, a town that has imprinted itself in history. It was from here that James Cook began his epic voyages of discovery. It has also been a whaling centre, and long before then a major place of pilgrimage thanks to its local saint, Hilda. Whitby’s once-mighty abbey ruins still dominate the landscape. Whitby was also home of the pioneering Victorian photographer, Frank Meadow Sutcliffe.

In addition to the architecture and vernacular buildings of the region there is fine coastal scenery, including great sandy beaches, and contrasting rocky shores, most notably at Saltwick Bay. Many of the rocks here are fossil-rich and North Yorkshire is often described as the Jurassic coast of the north east.

Perhaps the biggest attraction at this time of year lies further west where the small river, May Beck, plunges into a chasm as Falling Foss, the most spectacular waterfall of the region. However, it is really the surrounding woodland that makes this area great for photography. There are other pockets of woodland, cascades and waterfalls, alternative locations should the weather be wet, windy, or misty.

The Victoria provides a warm and welcoming base, whatever the weather.

Attendees will be under the inestimable guidance of Joe Cornish, along with specialist support from Teamwork Digital and Phase One.

This workshop is ideally suited to intermediate and advanced level photographers, seeking to enhance their craft with a more specialised approach. There will be a host of Phase One digital medium format equipment for participants to work with, as well as Cambo technical cameras.

Throughout the weekend, we will spend time bringing images into Capture One, and guiding you through making the most of the processing and workflow tools available. This will also act as time to get together and have general discussion about our photographic processes.

We will be setting out at 2pm on Friday 10th and rounding off at 1pm on Sunday 12th.

This workshop is limited to 6 places.

Included in the cost for the workshop is:

  • Two nights sea view accommodation at the Victoria Hotel in Robin Hoods Bay
  • Breakfast and evening meals
  • Discounts from our affiliate brands – Phase One, Cambo, ARCA-SWISS, Gitzo, LEE Filters, Novoflex, NYA-EVO, Leofoto and EIZO, Heliopan and more.

Joe has capacity to carry six passengers to and from locations, so there will be no need for individual transport during the workshop.

This eastern part of Britain lies in the rain shadow of the Pennines, and while by no means dry there is a surprisingly benign climate. This is a workshop is dedicated to outdoor photography, so please come equipped with sensible clothing and footwear to stay warm, dry and comfortable.

While there won’t be any intensive hiking, please be prepared to be on your feet for a few hours at a time.

If you have any questions at all, or need any further information, please contact our team on +44 (0) 207 323 6455 or sales@teamworkphoto.com.

We look forward to seeing you there!
