Schneider 800mm f12 APO Tele Xenar lens. With its Apo-Tele-Xenar 9.0/600 and 12/800, Schneider-Kreuznach has developed a practical modular design system comprised of one front and two different rear element groups for 8x10-inch photographs. Users can put together a 600 or 800 telephoto by buying the appropriate modules. The strong telephoto effect of the long focal lengths enables the user to overcome long distances, facilitates exclusion of backgrounds, and helps to achieve new points of view due to the compressed field depth. The shortened back focus of the telephoto design allows relatively short bellows extensions to decreases noticeably the risk of blurred outdoor photographs taken particularly with 8x10-inch cameras.

The Apo-Tele-Xenar is a 5-element telephoto lens system with an angle of view of 35 degrees, which can be used with a focal length of 400mm for formats of up to 13cm X 18cm and with a focal length of 800mm for formats of up to 30cm X 40cm. The apochromatic correction, achieved by the use of special optical glass, gives a clear reduction in the secondary spectrum. The resolution of these special lenses is not sensitive at the normal working aperture to changes in the object to image ratio, with the result that the Apo-Tele-Xenar 5.6/400mm can be used without hesitation at a range of 2 meters. The gray surface of the mounting serves to reduce thermal effects. To avoid reflections and to improve transmission the Apo-Tele-Xenar has a multi-layer, anti-reflection coating.

The high quality of the large format image can immediately be seen by looking at a picture taken using a large format lens. It will have the brilliance, full detail, precision, and sharpness that can only be achieved using this photographic medium. Most importantly, Schneider large format lenses are top-quality lenses that meet all the demands of the photographic industry. In large format photography there is no rigid connection between the lens and the film, compared to that of the small and medium formats. The free movement of lens and film standard enables better correction.
